Why

Why a Framework Matters

AI visibility is not a single metric. Multiple signals combine to determine whether AI platforms mention, cite, and recommend a brand. Without a structured framework, optimization efforts become fragmented and unmeasurable.

The AI Search Visibility Framework provides a consistent methodology for assessing where a brand stands today, identifying the specific gaps holding it back, prioritising actions by impact, and tracking progress over time. It transforms AI search optimization from guesswork into a systematic, measurable discipline.

The Five Dimensions

The Five Dimensions

Dimension 1 — Content Answerability (1-5)

What it assesses: Is content structured for AI extraction? Does the site feature clear definitions, FAQ sections, concise paragraphs, and direct answers to questions?

What good looks like: Every key page opens with a standalone definition sentence. FAQ sections with FAQPage schema exist on all guide pages. Content uses H1-H2-H3 hierarchy. Direct answers are not buried in marketing copy. Comparison tables replace prose comparisons.

Common failures: Marketing-heavy copy with no clear definitions. No FAQ sections. Long, unstructured paragraphs. Answers buried behind walls of brand messaging.

Dimension 2 — Entity & Schema (1-5)

What it assesses: Does the brand have clear entity signals? Can AI platforms accurately identify, describe, and distinguish the brand from competitors?

Key signals: Wikidata entries for company and key people. Google Knowledge Panel claimed or triggered. Organization and Person schema implemented sitewide. sameAs links to all external profiles (LinkedIn, Crunchbase, Companies House, etc.). knowsAbout properties declaring topic expertise. Consistent name, description, and founding date across platforms.

Dimension 3 — Authority Signals (1-5)

What it assesses: Does the brand have AI-relevant trust markers? How often do trusted third-party sources reference the brand?

Key signals: Citation authority (third-party mentions on high-authority sites). E-E-A-T signals (author credentials, expert commentary, original research). Directory listings (Crunchbase, Clutch, G2). Earned media coverage. Backlink quality (still relevant for retrieval). According to Digital Bloom research, brand search volume is the strongest predictor of LLM citations (0.334 correlation — stronger than backlinks).

Dimension 4 — Topical Coverage (1-5)

What it assesses: Does the brand own its category's topic space? Is the content comprehensive enough that AI platforms view it as an authoritative source?

Key signals: Breadth — does the site cover all key sub-topics in its category? Depth — does each topic have substantive, expert-level coverage? According to Digital Bloom, semantic completeness has a 0.87 correlation coefficient with AI citations. Pages scoring 8.5/10+ see 340% higher inclusion rates.

Dimension 5 — Technical Foundation (1-5)

What it assesses: Is the site technically optimised for AI discoverability?

Key signals: Structured data validated (Google Rich Results Test). AI crawlers not blocked in robots.txt (GPTBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot). Sitemap up to date. Page speed optimised. Canonical tags on all pages. Open Graph and Twitter meta tags. Mobile responsive.

Levels

AI Readiness Levels

The aggregate score across all five dimensions (5-25) maps to four AI Readiness Levels:

Level
Score
Description
Level 1: Invisible
5-10
AI doesn't know you exist. No entity signals, no structured content, no citations.
Level 2: Emerging
11-15
Sporadic visibility. Some AI platforms mention you occasionally, but inconsistently and often inaccurately.
Level 3: Competitive
16-20
Visible but not dominant. You appear in AI answers but competitors appear more often or more prominently.
Level 4: Leading
21-25
Strong presence across platforms. AI consistently mentions, cites, and recommends you. Minor gaps remain.
Metrics

The Four Core Metrics

In addition to the five-dimension framework, growthvibe tracks four core performance metrics that measure actual AI visibility outcomes:

The framework dimensions measure readiness (inputs). The core metrics measure results (outputs). Together, they provide a complete picture of AI search visibility.
